Telstream MC-218/xx20SC media converters are used to convert 10/100/1000 Base-TX Ethernet (twisted pair) and 1000Base-FX Gigabit Ethernet (fiber optic) interfaces. Duplex transmission is carried out over a single fiber using wavelength division multiplexing at wavelengths of 1310 and 1550 nm over distances of up to 20 km, providing greater flexibility and lower cost since only one optical fiber is used instead of two.
